PAUL MASSET |
Paul Masset, was born in 1967 just outside Paris, where he had (Peter Norton was to note wryly) the 'good forturne' to receive no art education. Introduced to painting by his Midhurst grandfather, from the age of 16 he attended Cubertou where Peter had the satisfaction of imparting Paul Maze's influence to the young artist. Peter wrote that Paul with remarkable rapidity had seized on Maze's freedom and vitality of execution, and commented nearly 20 years ago: "Where will he go from here? This is Paul's fourth solo exhibition at the Gallery, although many will remember Paul exhibiting in The Midhurst Gallery’s “Related Through Pastel” millennium exhibition with works by Paul Maze and Peter Norton. Paul is a lawyer with the French Forestry Commission and has recently moved with his family from Strasbourg to a village near Rouen in Normandy. His pictures are of the area around his new home as well as the South of France and West Sussex. He is a member of the Midhurst Art Society and is a regular exhibitor at the Society’s summer exhibition. He has also exhibited in London, Paris, Versailles, St Germain-en-Laye, Strasbourg and Chichester. The Exhibition at The Midhurst Gallery, Grange Road, Midhurst is open Monday to Saturday 9 am to 5 pm until 22 November 2003.
